South Sudanese boxer Korobo hopes to win a major title in 2020.

Since his breakthrough last year, Boxer Korobo John Yanga looks forward to a major fight in 2020.

Last year the South Sudanese ace won a major title in Australia.  The Australia Regional Title is the super middleweight’s first Regional title since he turned a professional boxer 2013.

“I’m hoping to fight for the Australian title this year,” Korobo told The Insider. 

The 35 year-old boxer said he would have loved to represent South Sudan in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan if he had not turned professional.

“In order for me to compete in the Olympic Games I would have to be an amateur boxer but unfortunately, I am a professional boxer now,” the boxer said revealing that he is still representing the world’s youngest  nationy every time he competes.

“I am truly proud to represent my South Sudanese community and country every time I step in the boxing ring.” 

The Australia based started his boxing career in 2006, as an amateur boxer and has since had thirty fights, winning twenty five and losing five

Since he turned professional in 2013, he has had ten fights as a professional fighter winning seven, drawing two and losing once. His recent win was the state light heavy weight title held last month.

Korobo plans to return to South Sudan to mentor the young and talented amateur boxers in the country.

“In the next 5 years I would love to come back home and pass on my knowledge to the young generation of South Sudan,” the state light heavy weight champion said.

“I would love to get the opportunity to work and help our youth who participate in boxing,” Korobo added. 

Korobo is born to John Ito Yanga who lives here in Juba and Regina Manas Basha who is based in Australia with him.

His father John Ito Yanga is the youngest sibling of Joseph Lagu, the President of the then Autonomous Southern region of Sudan in 1978 and the Vice president of Sudan from 1982-89.

Born in Juba, Korobo moved to Khartoum with his parents at the age of five. He lived in Khartoum and moved to Cairo, Egypt at the age of14, where he lived for 3 years then moved to Melbourne, Australia with his mother in 2003 where he is currently based. 

His father and mother hail from Nimule and Yambio respectively.
