Dear Future Husband! Will You Marry Me?

Dear Future Husband! Will You Marry Me?

By Linda Apollo

Hey love,

Hope this gets you well.

Of late I have been thinking about love a lot. I have been thinking about marriage. Our marriage. I don’t like not knowing what will happen to me five years from now, heck, not even in the next five minutes. Picturing you gives me hope. It puts a smile on my face. It calms the storm in me.

I may not know you yet, or maybe I do. I don’t know. All I know is that you are not only good looking but also smart and funny. I am not about to laugh at my own jokes for the next X number of years we’ll be together.

In all honesty, I have no expectations whatsoever of the kind of guy you’ll turn out to be. If anything, I will take the reminder of my life to understand you if everything else fails. I will choose you even when you make me mad. And when we fight, we are not fighting to win but to fix our issues.   We will be frustrated. We will be human. Still I will go to battle for you. Still I will choose you and keep choosing you everyday.

I am not a perfect person. If anything, I am guilty. I have a lot of short comings. I have flaws in my personality that need to be straightened out.  I believe I will be ready when the day comes for us to say our vows. I don’t know what mistakes you have made in your past life, but I am willing to overlook your flaws. No one is perfect. I believe you have learnt from your mistakes and the experiences have played a huge role in shaping the person that you are.  We all deserve a second chance.

I want a routine with you. I want waking up in the morning to the sun shining or the rain pouring with you. I want a home with you. I want late night tv and too much to drink with you. I don’t just want to marry you to wake up to you everyday or be with you forever. I want to marry you because marriage is hard, raising kids is hard, blending two families is hard and you are the person I want to go through bad times with. I want to marry you and love you everyday through every bump in the road. I want to marry you to be your rock through every curve ball. I do not want to marry you because it’s cute and exciting. I want to marry you because it’s real and hard work and it’s a lifetime commitment and spending it with you is worth every second of it.

You will be more than welcome to milk my purse dry. As Mufasa says,” I will go to work and make a solid income then come home and dissolve it. Be a solution to you.” I will make myself a glass trusting you don’t like breaking things.

Kids? Yes please! I am scared of kids though. What if I am not good enough for them? But I have you, so I am safe. I want three, five or maybe seven. What’s your number? The more the merrier.  We will teach them about God. About life, and everything we can.

I have a feeling my brothers will like you from the get-go. My mum will need some time though. (she is the delicate one in the family. I am her only daughter so be patient with her.)   I will die first then you will have to bury me. Maybe this will be the first time you cry in public. I am going to love you in your weakest moments to your strongest ones. When you are happy and when you are sad.

I want to grow old with you. Share back pains with you. Find new ways of making love because God knows our knees won’t be able to support some of the positions anymore. As of now, have fun and enjoy your single hood. Be cautious to not exhaust your energies. We will need it.

I hope you love traveling. I definitely do.  (we will have a traveling fund) I would love for us to travel the world together if God blesses us with the means. We’ll figure it out together. I want to go to the weirdest of places with you and dine on the weirdest of dishes. As long as there are no snakes, geckos, frogs or any crawling creatures.

I pray that wherever you are, you are safe and happy. I pray that you worry less and live more. Be happy, make memories.

So, how about it… will you marry me?
