Fred’s Ranch- Isinya’s Open Secret!
Have you ever wondered where you could enjoy an unfiltered connection with nature? Wonder no more! If you head to the serene escarpment of Kisaju, along Kitengela Namanga Road in Isinya Kajiado county, you will land at the famous Fred’s ranch. Sitting on 15 acres of land is well-manicured land and well-thought-out magical space. The Cowboy-themed resort is the home for horse riding, picnicking, farm tours, swimming, camping, and boasts a vibrant children’s play area. As most would wonder, parking space is a big deal in most of these entities, but this is unheard of at Fred’s ranch.
The lockdowns and reduced movement during Covid have really led to great discoveries. I was chatting with an old friend and boredom brought out the rider in him. He trained and officially started motorcycle riding a year ago. We since have not met and we agreed to have a weekend out on his bike. Unfortunately, the weather couldn’t allow it, so we decided to drive just anywhere. He remembered this place that he had been totally sold to, during one of their group rides and that is how I ended up discovering this timeless ranch!
This is a common place for most bikers especially over the weekends for an easy-to-grab delicious lunch or a stopover. It can be accessed from various sides. Those coming from Nairobi can easily use the Mombasa highway and branch to the Kitengela, Namanga highway. It is about 25Kms from Kitengela and 56kms from the capital. Anyone coming from Tanzania through the Namanga route can also have this as their stopover. The people who live along Kiserian do not have to take the long rides, it is in their neighborhood. Accessing it from Ngong road is also advisable since it has manageable traffic and you can drive or ride through to Ngong town through the main or through the back route Gataka road, then through Kiserian and finally Isinya. It is approximately an hour and half using this route with minimal traffic and a Kilometer and a half from the main road. Public transport is readily available both from the CBD to Isinya and also from Ngong town to Isinya.
Fred’s ranch is the home of organic foods. All food sold there is grown there. The 15acre land has been greatly utilized and a farm tour is allowed. It is important to note that weekends are super busy in this place hence the farm tours could be so short or not available if the staff are extremely engaged. On arrival, you are not only met by greatly dressed waiters whose dress code is cow boy themed, but you are served with great attitude and warm smiles. The waiters sure attended good schools; proper customer service is their specialization. Be sure to try their wet fry kienyeji chicken. It might be your idea of heaven. The roasted mbuzi is so friendly even for children. Having asked for all this, ensure your food has creamed vegetables accompaniments and you might not leave as soon because not only is their food delicious but the environment is so conducive for a family hangout, or a friendly hangout or even a date. The music volume is considerably low or manageable.
This is also an ideal place for hosting picnics, weddings, birthdays, business and baby showers and very family friendly events too. The events will not be cliché since the guests have the options of quad biking, swimming, camping, horse riding as well as activities for children. As you plan your way to this ranch, remember it is a cashless zone, they accept mobile money payments and visa cards. There is also a bar area and rooms available for those who would want longer stays.
Owned by the media personality Fred Obachi Machoka, dabbed as the Blackest man in Africa, a visit to his ranch gives you an opportunity for meet and greet. He engages the patrons and has lengthy conversations as well as taking them for the farm tour where the main concentration is dairy and Agro farming. If you obsess with nature like photos, this should be your go to place.
People say, if you want to judge someone, judge them with the state of their washrooms. For this place, the toilets are impressive! Sparkless and you would hardly tell where they are if you wanted to judge by bad odor! That was sure a plus since this means hygiene is greatly observed here.
Mostly, I would only think of ranches I’d watched on the movies, so this came as such a beautiful surprise. Good Customer service is also almost foreign in most of our establishments, which is what would have me going back to Fred’s ranch countless times. The environment gives you meditation environment vibes as well as bringing in just a relaxed mood. It is the perfect place for both people riding and those driving since the parking space is big enough for all. The crowd is sure a mature crowd giving making it a good place for networking too. In these uncertain times, I would recommend Fred’s ranch to unwind and bond with family or friends.
