Youth Battles

They call us the saddest generation,

Spoiled, lazy, and weak for they have no knowledge

Of the battles, I must face each day. For the battles, I fight

Today none of my grandparents and forefathers had seen it

Before.

we are battling drugs, sexual assault, neglect by parents

Gangster groups that threaten our lives for we can’t speak

Because we are sponsored by powerful men who kill and destroy families

For the ego.

Not only that, today we young people fight unknown battles,

Our great-grandfathers lived in a humble world, not in times like ours where

Everyone is working for his stomach.

This generation came with its own struggles and challenges for instance today,

Everyone is wrought to earn money which includes completion, back shooting, killing each other to take your brother’s place, and many other things this generation is known for

Things that never existed before. so, the challenges, problems, and changes this generation is facing are worse compared to other generations, I feel so.

This world would be a better place for everyone if the ancestors stooped looking over us from their underworld with judgmental attitudes, blaming us for their failures and irresponsibility,

Help us build a better world because we all contribute to this sad generation

And are a part of.

Far gone are the days in African tradition where communities protect each and educate the young ones to protect and be responsible youth

Each day I wake up I must fight hard to see the next day

We are facing times like never and this is where we need our parents most

but they are nowhere to be found  

they are working to put food on the table

but who will listen and advise me now?

I am left alone to go fend for ourselves

through my worst and most fearful days because I have no one to talk to

Daddy and Mommy leave at 6 o’clock in the morning

and come back at night when the children

Are in bed.
